Selecting & Installing Chandeliers

Choosing and installing the right chandelier  entails more than just selecting the right color or style to fit with your decor. The most important factor after finding the right design is the size and placement in the room. For large rooms 14 x 14 feet or larger, you should select a 25 to 36 inch chandelier. For medium size rooms of 10 x 10 feet or smaller, the best choice is a chandelier less than 20 inches in diameter. Be sure to have a minimum of 6-1/2 feet of space between the fixture and the floor in areas where there is foot traffic.

If you're hanging the chandelier over a table it should be 30-34 inches from the surface of the table. Select a chandelier about 12 inches narrower than the width of the table. There also should be at least 48 inches of space between the chandelier and the surrounding walls.

For energy savings, GoodMart has quality fluorescent chandeliers from Lithonia and Forecast. You can always change out incandescent bulbs for more energy efficient fluorescent lamps with either medium or candelabra screw bases.
