2011 brings new regulations in California that ban the 100W incandescent light bulb. In place of the 100W incandescent light bulb, customers can buy the 72W halogen light bulb, which is just as bright, and lasts longer to boot.

This regulation will take effect for the rest of the United States in January 2012.

The 72W light bulbs look just like the bulbs they replace, are dimmable, and produce the same warm white light consumers are accustomed to.

There are other options too, including LED bulbs and compact fluorescent. Whatever alternate light bulb is used, substantial energy savings are assured.
